Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are similar to hybrid electric vehicles in that they combine internal combustion engines with batteries and electric propulsion motors, but PHEVs have more powerful motors and larger battery packs that allow for significant all-electric or electric-assisted range. PHEV battery packs must be connected to the electric grid in order to charge fully.
